2024 Broadway SAL D - Design Insights

So for the D we went with Drowsy Chaperone. This was the first one that we weren't familiar with the show, but having researched it we now very much want to see it.

The main goal with this letter was to avoid stripes - which we ultimately failed at (though they aren't ON the letter, so that counts for something right?)

The D was difficult in that I thought we would have more time to research it, but had a health crisis in the middle and lost some time in the hospital (we're doing ok now, getting it figured out :) ).

I put the chair as my first graphic, because of the way that the man in the chair is narrating the entire show, which is also why the chair is placed next to the spotlight (instead of in it). It's also why the striped backdrop from the background is placed in the spotlight.

The chair was an interesting challenge, because crocheted afghan folded on top of chair was not something I'd ever thought I'd convey in cross stitch. Surprisingly easier than expected though.

I think the martini glasses are actually my favorite part, because I like the way they transfer into the line inside the D - as the letters drunkenly stumble down the curve.

For the words we went with 'As we stumble along' because I liked that song when I listened to it.

The last thing to mention is the lighting in general - as you can see there's a light in front of the D shining up at it - so the D's coloration inside is reflecting that (and the words inside the D also reflect it) which I think is neat.
