I really enjoy Daja in the Circle of Magic books, I feel she has a good character development, and I love how wonderfully stubborn she is. For her bookmark we wanted to both get the feel of her metal tree as well as her work with fire, and I think Tina did that wonderfully. The tree growing up around the bottom, meeting the fire that wraps around the top. We took the colorations for the tree from the descriptions in the book, but the quote is from The Will of the Empress.

We ended up going with this quote because I feel that the characters were changing throughout all the books, and that it's a good overall sentiment to have. We must always be changing to be able to survive in this world, and changing and growing is good.

This one was a lot of fun to make, and we hope you like stitching it! Find the pattern in our SAL group on FB (through July 2021, then it moves to the shop): https://www.facebook.com/groups/730040497646157

This week's bookmark was inspired by The Protector of the Small series, which is one of my all time favorites! This is the the first series of Tamora Pierce's that I ever read, after finding it in my little hometown library. The lead character Kel is filled with so much purpose, and unlike Alanna she doesn't have to hide that she's a girl, the world has changed over time. She still has a lot of issues from being a girl training to be a Knight, but she gets through them. I love the supporting characters in this series a lot as well, I feel like they have a lot more depth than some of the other series supporting characters.

So for Kel we decided to go with her sparrows, because they were one of my favorite things of the books. If we could have fit Peachblossom on the bookmark we would have! I think the tiny sparrows turned out pretty well (and having seen it test stitched I absolutely love this bookmark!)

The quote needed to be something meaningful to Kel, and part of the reason she wants to be a Knight is to fix things, to be able to protect those that need it, and to make the world a better place. This quote fit that sentiment perfectly.

Remember, this bookmark pattern is available for free through the end of July in our Facebook SAL group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/730040497646157 and after the end of July will be available in our shop.

Happy Stitching!

We're almost to the end!

Everyone who guessed this time around got it right that the A was Chicago, someone even guessed the correct song. For this one the graphics are pretty straight forward, we had the boa and the bars inside the A as the graphics. You can see that the little bits from the last two letters came from the Boa.

For the colors we pulled inspiration from the black, white, and red posters, but didn't want to make the letter itself black, because, as you can see, the Y is black.

As for the lyrics, there were so many we wanted to put in this one including Pop, Six, Squish, Uh uh, Cicero, Lipschitz, but there was no way to make that fit and just Pop, Six, Squish left us a little to short. We came up against that in a couple other lyrics were tried, before settling on Give 'em the Old Razzle Dazzle.

There is a lot going on on the sides of this one, more so then any of the other letters we've had so far. The W is finishing up and the Y is overlapping with some of it's graphics as well.

We've had so much fun with all of you on this SAL. I can't believe it's almost done! Thank you to all the amazing folks who have been doing this one with us!
