The second release of the Classic Broadway SAL is inspired by The King and I. (I know it's probably not that much of a surprise, due to the lyrics on the edge of the first release)

We had fun designing this one, for graphics we ended up going with one of the pillows they use to kneel on, and a world map. We also have our first art font.

Of course most of "I whistle a happy tune" was on the previous release, but we have "Getting to know you" and "Is a puzzlement" for the other lyrics. The lyrics in the bottom right corner "I co" are the only hint you get for the next release :)

I'm so excited that we're finally on the first release of the Modern Broadway SAL!

We had a lot of fun working on this SAL, and I can't to see everyone's stitching!

The first release, as you can see, is The Book of Mormon

We didn't want to include any images of people, so instead we decided to go with a doorbell (Hello!) and of course we have some of the lyrics from the major songs, at least three of which get stuck in my head constantly.

For the Modern SAL we based the frame and lettering off of Radio City Music Hall's signage, and so the effect we're going for is neon lights. This carries through to the graphics as well. There is a little hint in the top right corner of the next musical in line - can you guess what it might be?

We are finally at the first release of our Classic Broadway SAL! Many of you have been stitching your big beautiful frames, and I'm so excited to start the releases!

Ok, so the first release for the Classic is Jesus Christ Superstar - and I have to admit, neither Tina or I had/have seen this one. The only thing we had really strong feelings about was not putting a cross on the piece, since neither of us are really religious. Instead we went with some more generalized graphics. We ended up going with spears and fronds that are similar to what we found in a lot of the pictures from different productions. As you can see the first letter this time is G (can you guess what it'll spell out?) and instead of doing full stitches for the wording, we've put it in backstitch and used it to fill in some of the between spaces.

I can say that throughout both this piece and the Modern, we had some fun with the alphabets and getting to choose more than one line from each show was great.
