We're so excited for the first release of the Neil Gaiman SAL!

The two books on this release are American Gods (blue) and Anansi Boys (white) with a quote from each book on the spine. American Gods is the first book of Neil Gaiman's that Tina read, she and her friends found a copy of it jammed into a sofa in a coffee shop (it was a traveling book) and they traded it between everyone in the friend group. It was the second Neil Gaiman book I (Cynthia) read.

There's actually a funny story about Tina and American Gods as well. We're based in Michigan, and we used to attend an event in Madison, Wisconsin. We'd drive out there, and while I was not around as of this point the group Tina decided to go with picked American Gods to listen to on the way there. So on the way to Madison the group started to noticed that when the book talked about a place (IE - the House on the Rock, or even the highway exit numbers) the audiobook would have either just talked about it or would do it as they passed. It really freaked them out until they remembered that the book had said it was an actual route, that they just happened to find.

The picture tucked into the top of the bookcase is Fat Charlie, a recreation of a photo from the Anansi Boys book. On top of the white book we have two coins, the Sun and Moon coins from American Gods. The coins are based off of the ones released with the show.

The third graphic is Dog from Good Omens :) Dog was based off of a combination of the description from the book, the one in the show, and a dog that we knew that reminded us of Dog.

I bet you can guess at least one of the books on the other side of this shelf!

Release four is here, and it's Legally Blonde!

This musical surprised us when it made the list for the Modern SAL, but we're glad it did because it was so much fun to design. As you can see we went with a neon version of Bruiser the chihuahua (which in my opinion came out super well).

I actually love the movie Legally Blonde, but I'd actually never listened to this musical's songs before we started designing, but I can admit that after listening to Omigod several times I spent the next several weeks walking around singing "Omigod, omigod you dogs" to our puppers.

The other lines we added of course include "Gay or European" (which also got in my head) as well as "Bend and Snap" "So much better" and "what about love".

Then there's a pretty big hint for what the next musical is in the top right corner :)

This release is Sweeney Todd!

We chose the D for it so that we could do the caged bird inside of it. There's a pie on top of course and then some blood/pie juice leaking out under the letter.

For quotes we had to go with 'The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' and we added 'If I cannot fly let me sing' to go with the bird graphic (some of those words carry over to the next release), and then 'Worse pies in London' for the third.

This is one of Tina's favorite musicals, so she was excited that it made it on.

For the next release you have a couple of H's to guess from, as well as the pinky/cream part of a graphic at the top right. This one's probably not hard to guess :)
